Despite having a chance to knock the greatest of all time off of her throne, Angelique Kerber couldn't hold on in the finals against Karolina Pliskova at Cincinnati's Western & Southern Open.

With this loss, Serena maintains her number one ranking for 184 weeks, only two weeks behind the all time record of 186, held by Steffi Graf.

Kerber lost to the 24 year old Czech Karolina Pliskova 6-3, 6-1 in a match that lasted just over an hour.

Even with this loss, Kerber is ranked number two and has already qualified for the WTA finals held in Singapore October 23-30.
